Lance Jones is a music educator at West Branch Area School District, where he teaches grades 5-12 instrumental music, eighth-grade general music, high school music electives, and serves as the high school arts department chair. He is the recipient of the West Branch Outstanding Warrior Award for Excellence in Teaching. Jones previously served as the director of bands at Northern Cambria School District from 2010-2019. Ensembles under the direction of Mr. Jones perform extensively and have engaged in workshops and commissions with renowned educators and composers.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Lance hosts The Backwoods Bandroom, a podcast dedicated to celebrating music in small schools. Jones is a member of PMEA, has served as a Professional Development Chair, and is a member of NAfME’s Small School Initiative Task Force. He is an active clinician and has contributed articles to PMEA News, Teaching Music, and The Instrumentalist.
Mr. Jones holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He most recently earned an Advanced Certificate in Wind Conducting from Messiah University, where he also earned his M.M. in Wind Conducting as a student of Dr. William Stowman and Dr. Brad Genevro. Lance has taken additional studies with Eugene Corporon and Dr. Jack Stamp.
Lance resides in Morrisdale, PA with his wife Carrie, and their two children.
